March had crazy ants in its pants!

On Thursday, March 18th we had a great show at C’est What opening for Brian MacMillan. For those of you who missed it, we feel terribly sad for you. You missed so many fun times and stuff. But seriously, our audience was awesome and captive – just the way we like ‘em. Brian MacMillan is a serious talent. Solid original tunes. Clean and sweet delivery. Band full of heavy-hitting pros. Totally exceptional night of music front to back. If you missed it but wanna take a peek, check out some photos here.

A week later Janine, Erin and Lisa returned to C’est What to sing it up some more. An impressive opening set was offered up by Alana Kurtis who set the tone for a great night of tunes. Following this Janine did a solo set and had Skee and Lease sing backups and then Erin got up with her band and funked the crap out of the place! It was awesome. Great energy and some really special treats in the mix with the Erin Smith Band. Erin played some new tunes that sounded out-of-control outstanding. Our friend Johan from the band Mr. Something Something came up and sang some very sexy duets with Skeeter. What an amazing pair. Making music’s making love…. I hear that! Click here for photos. Sadly Miss Mel couldn’t be at the gig because she was wearing a pretty dress and singing back-ups for Mr. Luke Doucet at the Horseshoe that night. The next time there is a gig conflict like this we hereby challenge Mr. Luke Doucet to a thumb wrestling competition. Winner gets Melissa. With three to one odds, we got this monkey in the barrel.

Neener turns 25!

On top of the silliness it was Janine’s birthday on March 24th. She be 25 and lovin’ it. Something neat happens when you turn 25. You get pressies! Skeeter made Neener a super cool knitting bag. Lease knit Neener a lovely scarf and gave her a book that has a chapter dedicated entirely to a huge poop. Mel got Neener a card with a penis on the front and Shel Silverstein’s Where the Sidewalk Ends (poems that we all grew up with…). How cute is that? Right cute, right cute.

Stranded in Suburbia hits the shelves April 20th!

This is where things get a bit hairy. Melissa McClelland is scheduled to release her totally awesome and very long-awaited record Stranded in Suburbia on April 20th. The wait has been painful, but will be nothing compared to the sweet bliss of having her music floating through the airwaves. Not that that’s painful. Blissful! Get it? What we’re saying is go out and buy yourself a copy. It will be available in record stores across Canada. Also, come on out to her CD Release Party at the El Mocambo in Toronto on Friday, April 30th. This may end up being a Lisa and Janine show since Melissa might be in crazy record promotion mode. Erin’s sister Jess is about to give birth any day now and Erin is on call 24-7 to be in the delivery room on the day in question. But we will keep you posted.

Oh… and that record we promised? Don’t you worry. We’re on it.
