I'm writing now because I had to express my utmost amazement and heartfelt appreciation for The Ladybird Sideshow's first CD. Wow... it is difficult to put it into words how each and every song is such a joy to listen to over and over and over again. I gave Dianne and Mike their copies and both of them are just as in love with it as I am. I went over to Dianne's before Christmas and we sat by the fire and drank some drinks and listened to the CD. It was magical (not because of the drinks... lol).

I think what is so nice is that because you each have such different voices it's like getting a nice variety but also your voices go so well together. It's hard to believe you don't practice much because to me the harmony sounds perfect. And that Alice in Chains song at the end is amazing too... I love every bit of the cd and actually think I have to order another one because mine is getting worn out.....lol.

Anyways... I just wanted to tell you how much we all love it and will tell everybody and everyone how special you gals are!

Love you to bits

First of all I would like to say thanks to all the ladybirds! I decided to write this for a couple of reasons. The first reason is that you all have made a real difference in my life both personal and musically and I think that is worth sharing with others. Second I think that you should know the positive things that you have done for people even if you don't know you've done them...lol. We all say we would like to make a difference with our music and you truly have. I'll spill my guts and let you know that I'm 43 years old and have been a musician most of my life in some form, done all the usual playing bars, different band, church's, parties, solo gigs, even TV shows and on and on. Now since I have three children I've built myself a pretty nice little studio to keep my hands in the music and to help some younger musicians if I could somehow, but on to the point. I guess my very first contact with any of you was seeing Lisa and Rob at the Raintree Cafe in Waterloo a couple of years ago, and I thought they were both great. I hadn't heard alot of this type of music in small venues like that before, but I really liked it.Then I heard about the ladybirds at some point. I first saw you at Angel Cave very unplugged I might add. After a while I'm sitting there feeling very strange and I'm thinking to myself, what's going on here, it's like I'm hearing music for the first time and it's going right down to my soul. I don't know it was sort of an awaking for me somehow, very hard to explain such passion, and truth, and just life all pouring out into the music right there in front of my eyes and ears. After that I really felt like I needed to dig deeper because there was really something great happening here. I started to look around a bit on the internet and of course I began to see lots of articles about the ladybirds and each of your individual careers. So I started reading all the articles I could find, and again was taken back by so many of the things you all had to say. From your sites I found others like Jacob Moon and Jamie Oakes, and Rob Lamothe which I would later have the great fortune to hear Jamie, Jacob, and Lisa performing together at an old theatre in Waterloo. I'd heard so much about Rob and after reading alot of articles I find out that we both moved here from California and married Canadians...lol, but what he has to say about life and music made alot of sense to me too. I forwarded links to people especially young musicians that I thought should read them now...lol It's very easy to get caught up in so called music, recording and hype about what's the best gear, and all that stuff you know like how to be a star or whatever until you find out one day your not really doing music, you've just become a product of a world that's not really making music, we're just providing entertainment and in some kind of endless loop throwing out crap and calling it music but the real music got lost somewhere. But you showed me that it's not lost at all, it's in your hands and your voices and sprits, right where it should be. Because you've showed me that and made me feel it, and understand it I am able once again to find those things in myself and the music that I make for others because now I know where to look. You all make such great music with simply a guitar, your voice, and your passion for providing a great song and that's really what music is, there is no need to look further. I will promote that idea in every bit of music I create and every chance I get to all the musicians I come in contact with, and I will point them in your direction so that they can experience for themselves what I have. I'm sure I'm not the only one out here who feels this way but maybe they don't say it so I am saying it. Thank You! Thank You for being such just plain great human beings, and for being so truly honest with your music and sharing it with all of us. You are all an inspiration to our lives and our music.

As individual performers, the four women in the Ladybird sideshow can own your ears for as long as their set lists last. From songs that weave elaborate tales, to simple explorations of life and emotion, these women can take you places you never knew you wanted to go. Formed up into the Ladybird collective, your walls break down. With four very distinct vocal styles that don't hide behind all kinds of instrumentation, their "in the round" style sets always goes by faster than you think they should. I think that's what I like the most about the 'Birds. I revel in their simplicity. I feel I may be remiss in saying it's evocative of a campfire, (I don't often sit around the fire with brilliant songwriters with incredible vocal gifts) but it sort of is. The friendship begins (or continues) when the mics get turned on. With constant unpredictable banter between the 'Birds and the audience, we speak when spoken to and have our best listening ears on the rest of the time. The solo material that has come from each of this women is at times compelling, exquisite and inspiring. There's always at least one Ladybird cd with me all the time, as I never know where the need might hit me to listen to them. With stories of a collaborative studio album in the works, I check the website every day to be sure I have plenty of notice to go get it. Maybe that's what I'm trying to say, is that the Ladybirds can really get inside the music of your life, no matter what you're usually into. And once they're there, you don't ever want them too far away. I can't wait to see what they've got in store.

"Each of you is a remarkable performer in a traditional sense & that is such a rare treat these days.  To have all four of you share the same stage is one thing, but to have four musicians of your caliber and unique individual talents collaborate such that the band is greater than the sum of its parts, that is simply unheard of."
